And we risk increased instances of the misuse of military force owing to misunder- standings about what it can and can’t do or, once deployed, prematurely withdrawn because of unrealistic ex- pectations by those seeking quick-fix shortcuts. The solution is an educated citizenry that understands her soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines—under- stands that we are they. Notes 1.
