www.mca-marines.org/gazette 49 M a r i n e C o r p s G a z e t t e • M a y 2 0 0 9 MOS, or additional MOS, would re- quire some changes to current billet structure, the benefit of being able to staff billets with the most qualified Marines would ensure the highest level of intelligence support to MAGTF op- erations. A better trained intelligence Marine helps to further reduce the commander’s uncertainty and aid his decisionmaking, while providing in- creased protection to the force. Conclusion Marine Corps intelligence is on the cusp of greatness, with the most expe- rienced group of intelligence profes- sionals in its history. The “long war” is just that, and the requirement for well- trained and highly capable and adapt- able intelligence Marines is growing in importance. Getting over the next hill and truly professionalizing our enlisted intelligence Marines is well within sight. With just a few organizational changes, the 0231 MOS can become the force multiplier that many already believe it to be. The educational oppor- tunity is out there, and the infrastruc- ture to train Marines is in place. Make MISCC attendance a requirement and reward the Marines for attending with an additional MOS and a leg up on their peers, as well as a professional ed- ucational opportunity. Notes 1.
