Twenty-four members of the People’s Protection Group who had cooperated with the punitive forces were shot to death by soldiers at “Naen-Si-Bil-le” around Dongbok-ri, Gujwa-eup on 16 December, 1948. Two soldiers were killed in an attack by the armed resistance group near Neobeunsungi on 17 January, 1949, and about 300 Bukchon residents were slaughtered in a field and farm around Bukchon Elementary School. Bukchon was one of the villages’ most damaged in the Jeju 4·3 Incident.
