There is, howev- er, one major exception: Samcheok, a place I go to every year, and will for as long as I’m in the country. All it takes is a three-and-a-half-hour bus ride (on one of those comfy bastards, like the airport limo) and then you’re on the coast of southern Gangwon Province. Around the bus terminal near downtown Samcheok are a ton of good, cheap motels that’ll run you 30 bucks a night. The buses to local destinations also run from there, and right next to the terminal is an information booth. That is your command center. Time- tables for transit, pamphlets, whatever you need — they’ll take care of you. Utilize this resource.
