10 설명1 관덕정(Gwandeokjeong Pavilion) 보물 제322호, 소재지 : 제주시 삼도2동 관덕정은 조선 세종 때인 1448년 안무사 신숙청이 병사들을 훈련 시키기 위해 세운 제주도의 대표적 건물로서, 제주목 관아의 일부를 이루고 있다. 건립 이후 그 원형을 유지하며 여러 차례 수리되어 오던 중 일제강점기인 1924년 일본인이 수리하면서 지붕처마가 2척 정도 잘려 변형되었으나 2006년 보수를 통해 원래의 모습을 다시 찾았다. ‘관덕’이란 명칭은 ‘활을 쏘는 것은 높고 훌륭한 덕을 쌓는 것이다.’라는 예기( 禮 記) 의 내용에서 따온 것이다. 이는 ‘평소에 마음을 바르게 하고 훌륭한 덕을 쌓는다.’는 뜻이며 문무( 文 武) 의 올바른 정신을 본받기 위해 지어진 이름이다. [영문] Gwandeokjeong Pavilion Treasure No.322, Location : Samdo-2-dong, Jeju-si Gwandeokjeong Pavilion was built in 1448 under the leadership of the local officer Sin Suk-cheong during the reign of King Sejong. The pavilion was part of the Jeju administrative complex and used as a military facility from which commanders gave orders. Its original form had been maintained until 1924, At the time the Japanese deformed the structure by shortening the eaves by two ft. during their repair work. But the pavilion was restored to its original status in 2006. The word Gwandeok comes from a Chinese classic on rites. The name emphasizes that you should try to train your body and mind every day in order to obtain virtue. It reflects our ancestors’ endeavors to live a righteous live by upholding both the physical and mental virtues.
